About the research centre

Quantum UiB contributes to significant advances in fundamental and applied quantum research. The centre is based on collaboration across academia, industry, public sector, and government. Through its Quantum Sensing Lab, Quantum UiB provides infrastructure for quantum experimentation and new technology for society, as well as contribute to training the next generation of quantum scientists and quantum experts for industry.

The centre is founded on the following three scientific pillars with many real-life application areas:

Quantum computing and information theory

  • cyber security and post-quantum cryptography
  • quantum algorithms and error correction
  • quantum communication

Quantum simulations and optimization

  • quantum-inspired methods for complex systems
  • combinatorial optimization for energy networks, logistics, and finance
  • Artificial Intelligence

Quantum sensing and experiments

  • diamond-based sensing technologies
  • nanoscale sensing for life sciences and health care
  • cancer diagnostics and proton therapy related research
  • navigation in GPS-denied environments
